Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are you partnered with BSH Farms

We are partnered with BSH farms ,because me and my grandmother have always co-bred poultry. We have been raising poultry together for 13 years now. My grandmother Shiela Buckalew is the owner and operator at BSH Farms. The partnership allows us to focus on many different breeds and maintain the quality of them at the same time.

  • I am wanting to start showing birds, what breed do you recommend?

We keep a pretty big selection of breeds and varieties to be chosen from. If you carefully read the description of each breed it will let you know if the variety is recognized through the American Poultry Association (APA). You can show birds that are not a recognized variety ,but they can’t compete past there variety. If you like large birds I would recommend Brahmas or Cochins. If you like bantams I would recommend Silkies or Cochin Bantams. Our Tolbunt Polish are not a recognized variety ,but they are undergoing the acceptance process to be accepted into the standard.

  • When do you have adult pairs or trios available?

We typically have adult pairs and trios available Mid-summer through winter. If you are curious about what might be available please email us at toptierfarms2012@gmail.com . I will do my best to keep the website up to date.

  • What does NPIP Certified mean?

Here at Top Tier Farms and BSH Farms we are NPIP certified and AI (Avian Influenza) clean. We are registered with the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP). When you are NPIP certified you are held to a more strict bio-security standard. All birds leaving Top Tier Farms or BSH Farms will come with a NPIP certificate.

  • What are the APA/ABA?

The APA is the American Poultry Association and we highly recommend joining and becoming a member. The ABA is the American Bantam Association which is also a great club to be apart of.
